    Non-Executive Director and Chairman

    Craig is Chairman and is a non-executive director of Tonkin Consulting. Craig has a Bachelor of Economics and is a Chartered Accountant. His particular areas of expertise are providing business advisory services to small and medium enterprises including involvement on a number of advisory boards across the agribusiness and manufacturing sectors, together with succession planning and private wealth management services. Craig is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA), Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and Australian Institute of Management (AIM), whilst also a certified practising manager and holds a Diploma of Financial Services. A founding Partner of Brentnalls SA, Craig is now Managing Partner of that practice.

    Carolyn Mitchell

    Carolyn is an experienced company director and chair of private company, government and not-for-profit boards in a diverse range of industries.  Carolyn has practiced as a commercial lawyer for over 30 years specialising in the areas of commercial advice, insolvency and trade practices. These areas of practice allow a rare insight into ‘How not to run a business’; giving Carolyn the ability to identify and manage issues of governance, risk management and legal compliance.  Carolyn was appointed to the board as a non-executive director in 2016.

    Rene has over 35 years of professional experience and has been an Executive Director of Tonkin Consulting for over 25 years. Rene is a Principal Engineer within the company and brings significant experience in civil engineering design and construction having managed a range of large infrastructure projects in the transport, local government, urban development and water industries. Rene is a Fellow of Engineers Australia and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

    Rod has over 25 years of professional experience and has been an Executive Director of Tonkin Consulting for over 10 years. Rod has a keen interest and active involvement in the development of asset management practices in support of local government in South Australia, and sits on the board of the Institute of Public Works Engineering South Australia. Rod is a Fellow of Engineers Australia and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

    Stuart has over 20 years of professional experience and was appointed an Executive Director of Tonkin Consulting in 2014. Stuart is a principal engineer, providing automotive consulting services, expert advice and specialist services to a range of clients in the areas of vehicle design, testing and certification. He possesses extensive knowledge of the Australian Design Rules for motor vehicles and is a recognised engineering signatory for vehicle certification at a state and national level. Stuart is a Member of Engineers Australia and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

    Gerry is the Chief Executive Officer of Tonkin Consulting. He is responsible for implementation of the organisation’s external strategy and developing ongoing business relationships. Gerry combines an energetic and decisive leadership style with a strong results orientation to deliver outcomes for Tonkin Consulting’s clients. Gerry has gained broad and practical experience in the design and project management of water supply and wastewater projects in South Australia. This includes the planning, consultation and development of negotiated solutions which meet key stakeholder and business needs in complex and challenging environments.

    Gerry is a Fellow of Engineers Australia, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and a Member of the Australian institute of Company Directors. Gerry is actively involved in industry, most notably through his involvement as Immediate Past President of Engineers Australia (SA).

    Keith is the Operations Manager of Tonkin Consulting, responsible for implementing project delivery systems across the business, ensuring projects meet client expectations, resourcing, and monitoring project and program performance. Well recognised within the water industry, Keith brings a wealth of experience managing and providing leadership for large multidisciplinary projects. Keith has worked for private consulting companies and for government agencies. Keith combines strong results orientation with a clear and concise communication style which ensures his team members remain focussed on required outcomes. He has demonstrated success delivering projects utilising collaborative strategies which gain the commitment and buy-in of team members and key stakeholders. Keith is a Member of Engineers Australia and sits on the board of the Water Industry Alliance.

    Michael leads Tonkin Consulting’s Metropolitan Local Government Program, responsible for service delivery to local government organisations across metropolitan Adelaide. Michael is a Senior Civil Engineer and accomplished Project Manager with over 25 years’ experience in infrastructure development gained from private consultancy and Local Government. His skills include the planning, project management, design management, programming, cost estimation, design, construction phase management and maintenance of infrastructure projects. These include new land developments, urban renewal projects, master planning, feasibilities, roads, pavements, traffic controls, stormwater, wastewater, recycled water and environmental management infrastructure.

He is a Principal Asset Consultant assisting metropolitan and rural Councils in delivering asset management services and advice. Backed by a dedicated team servicing over 25 Councils, Rod has introduced support structures to local government to enable asset management legislative and operational requirements to be met.

    Jeff leads our Mining & Resources Program, servicing the infrastructure requirements of our mining clients which include accommodation facilities, transport and logistics solutions, water resources management and environmental management.

    Jeff’s extensive experience includes civil and structural engineering design, documentation and supervision. He combines his strong commercial focus with a pragmatic and flexible approach to ensuring successful outcomes on the projects he manages. He has the ability to utilise his extensive technical knowledge in a “hands on” capacity while leading and managing complex and challenging civil projects with a focus on the needs of the mining and resources industry.

    Sarah is an experienced civil and environmental engineer with significant experience in hydraulic modelling, engineering design and project delivery.  Throughout her career, Sarah’s skills have been applied to the full range of civil infrastructure and water resource management projects, from feasibility studies and concept development through to documentation, tender and project delivery, including contract administration and construction surveillance. She has been appointed design engineer and Project Manager on broad ranging projects for local and state government organisations in both urban and rural centres of South Australia, Queensland and New South Wales.

    Tim is the manager of Tonkin Consulting’s Mt Gambier office, responsible for service delivery to our loyal client base in the South East and managing a small team of skilled engineering and scientific staff. Tim has a broad range of experience in the fields of civil and environmental engineering, and has been involved in project management, design, documentation and contract administration on numerous civil infrastructure projects. Projects have included various road designs including intersections and roundabouts, land divisions, sewer drainage, sewer pump stations, STEDS, water supply and other associated infrastructure. As the Manager of the Mount Gambier Office, Tim has managed both Projects and Resources to ensure high quality project delivery standards are achieved.

    Jo is the manager of Tonkin Consulting’s Darwin office, responsible for service delivery to our clients in the Northern Territory. Jo is an exceptionally motivated Senior Engineer who has developed sound skills and experience in urban development, stormwater and contract management, in particular, hydraulic and hydrological modelling and design of new and existing stormwater systems. She also has a range of experience in civil infrastructure design, documentation and contract administration from small to large multi-disciplinary projects. Jo’s positive and confident approach enables her to quickly gain the confidence and buy-in of clients and stakeholders. Ken’s profile and reputation within the industry makes him highly sought after to undertake expert witness services as well as acting for insurance companies in assessing flood events.

    Neil Palmer has 40 years’ experience in the water industry in Australia, covering public and private sectors and working in design, construction, operations, project development, regulation, research and executive management.  Neil’s recent specialisation includes desalination with a leading Australian manufacturer and a national research centre. Neil is passionate about managing existing sources and creating new sources of fresh water with innovative but robust technology ranging from simple solutions to complex municipal, industrial and agricultural systems. He has a keen interest in harnessing renewable energy for water supplies.  Neil has a strong interest in water policy and is well known in the national and international water industry.  He was voted No 1 in World Water International’s 2015 survey of 25 water leaders of influence.
