Capelli Road Wastewater Pump Station
Due to extensive hydrogen sulphide damage at the Capelli Road wastewater pump station (WPS), the wet well and building were both structurally unsound. This major pump station receives flow from nine smaller pump stations and services a population of around 40,000. SA Water Corporation required the WPS to undergo a new design and construction, of which Tonkin Consulting was engaged as designer.
The project scope included site civil works, stormwater, structural details, gravity sewer, rising main and mechanical design. Technical advice was also provided for managing contaminated soils, hydraulic design, operating philosophy and managing septicity.
The project delivered a new pump station with wet well and surrounding infrastructure with solutions such as a segmental shaft technique.
