Metro Drainage Torrens Protection

As a result of storm events in 2016, SA Water Corporation identified sections of the River Torrens’ banks that required works to remediate erosion, protect adjacent infrastructure and prevent further distress to the riverbank. Four sites were identified as part of the Torrens Metro Drainage Preliminary Design works.

Tonkin Consulting was engaged by SA Water Corporation to design the remedial works for all four sites in Torrensville, Paradise, Lockleys and Thebarton. Scope of works included project management of the investigations and design and preliminary designs for proposed remediation works at each site. Other responsibilities has included computer modelling of the landslide site to understand pre-landslide conditions and risk management with the facilitation of workshops with SA Water and council stakeholders to identify and mitigate project risks.

The project to date has been delivered to scope and budget with the implementation of innovative approaches. A non-standard approach to the geotechnical investigation was completed based on an extensive in-house risk evaluation, which involved inputs and review from multiple people within Tonkin Consulting. This approach was not only innovative but ensured that appropriate data was obtained to aid the design.
