Munno Para Rail Station

Located on the Gawler Rail Corridor, the Munno Para Rail Station was the first of many stations to be upgraded on the Adelaide Metropolitan Passenger Rail Network over five years. As consortium lead consultants, Tonkin Consulting worked alongside several stakeholders in delivering the upgrade. The consortium included head contractor, Bardavcol, Swanbury Penglase Architects and Nilsen Electrical.

Challenges encountered during the project included the level difference of nearly two metres between the existing Alawoona Road and the proposed new platform level located 20 metres away. This brought constraints to the project that needed to be considered and accounted for during the design phase.

Winning a 2012 CCF Earth Award for outstanding construction, the new station consists of new side-track platforms, butterfly roof platform canopies, lift shafts, stairs, pedestrian overpass linking the two platforms, bus interchange, parking facilities, public lighting, passenger information system and CCTV security.
