Reedy Creek and Stapylton Landfill

Owned and operated by the City of Gold Coast, The Reedy Creek Landfill is one of two major landfills servicing the region. The City of Gold Coast acquired the neighbouring site, formerly a Quarry site. Tonkin Consulting was engaged for the development of a Masterplan for the whole site for the continuous future landfilling and operations as landfill and resource recovery facilities.

Key issues that required consideration for the Masterplan included identification of site risks and constraints, developing regular supply of airspace capacity, minimising operational expense with the limitation of risks associated with materials handling and leachate generation and managing capital expenditure where possible by spreading future costs and liabilities over time.

The Masterplan provided the location and volume of available airspace, a strategic approach to its utilisation and approximate timing of the numerous key milestones such as new cell development, stormwater infrastructure transitioning and cell closure and rehabilitation.

The Masterplan also considered infrastructure development and continuation of other site activities such as greenwaste, waste handling and processing.
