South Road Planning Study

Tonkin Consulting co-delivered a major planning study on the North-South corridor between Anzac Highway and the Southern Expressway through the Linking SA consortium. The Commonwealth and State Government-supported work was to address future plans to develop a non-stop corridor from Gawler to Old Noarlunga. The key study objective was to identify potential alignment and concepts for a non-stop North-South corridor between the Southern Expressway and Anzac Highway.

The proposed developments outlined in the study will provide non-stop traffic flow along the corridor while providing connectivity with the adjacent road network for commuters and direct connections for freight transport with major industry and export centres.

A strong focus on improving conditions for cycling, walking and public transport were outlined in the planning study and concept. The study addressed challenges including services risks posed by the construction methodology, complex interchanges and management of community expectations during the land acquisition process. Eight options were developed and priced to meet the highest level of functionality for the best value.
