The Kings Way

The Adelaide Showground required their service road, The Kingsway to be reconstructed. The Adelaide Showgrounds wanted to transform The Kingsway from a service road to a major thoroughfare and multifunctional space with the view to later extend it to the showground fence line to accommodate a new major entry.

Tonkin Consulting worked alongside urban designers and landscapers, Hemisphere Design to prepare plans for the reconstruction.

Tonkin Consulting was responsible for contract and construction supervision, lighting upgrade and design of new stairs adjacent the Stirling Angus building. Other services provided included the design of new underground services, relocating electrical transformers, design of new block pavement including sections of hydra-pave to manage stormwater flows and the development of a new landscape plan to retain a significant number of existing gum trees.

The reconstruction of the thoroughfare has created a new major entry into the showground which is easily accessible for those entering from the new railway station.
