Tonkin Consulting Newsletter January 2007

Welcome

Ken Schalk image

As the new year begins, I’m pleased to be able to report that 2006 was another year of achievements and milestones for our Practice. Support and collaboration continues with our clients, many of whom have worked with our team for several years on various projects. And our talented and innovative team has been recognised with several awards for a wide range of projects.

After three years of work, our role in the overall concept design, preliminary design and then detailed design of Stage 1 of the $600 million Wimmera Mallee Pipeline Project has been completed.  Ongoing opportunities to assist GWMWater with future stages of the project have arisen and are being pursued.

Work for BHP Billiton has begun at Roxby Downs, associated with the expansion of the township and the mine.

The substantial engineering landfill project south of Adelaide at the Southern Waste Depot and at Inkerman are both major investigation, design and construction projects in their own right.

Important and innovative work continues in the design of drainage works to overcome dryland salinity works problems in the Upper South East, involving over 50km of channels and associated structures.

Our spatial information team has achieved outstanding business success, resulting in a change of name for the group. Tonkin Spatial has won several awards and continues its internal work supporting the various disciplines in the Practice, as well as undertaking direct external projects for local government and the commercial sector.

The Practice continues to excel in the areas of stormwater management, floodplain mapping, and the development and implementation of asset management strategies, particularly for local government clients.

New additions to Tonkin Consulting include our HR Manager, Deb Lewis and five talented engineering graduates. Our Mt Gambier office is busier than ever and our office at Berri, opened 12 months ago, is fully occupied with projects in the civil, geotechnical and environmental fields.
