Green Urban Corridor Regeneration

Tonkin Consulting is currently working with the City of Unley in the planning for a $6M infrastructure upgrade project through Unley and Parkside.
This project will rejuvenate an under-utilised 850m long drainage corridor and is the final stage of a number of stages undertaken by Council over several years. The project will deliver on a range of objectives including:
- replace an ageing (pre 1940s) open stormwater trunk drain
- increase the flow capacity of the channel to a 100-year Annual Recurrence Interval (ARI) standard
- create recreation opportunities, including a bike / pedestrian path along the corridor to connect with other trail networks at both ends of the project
- create a water sensitive urban landscape through the removal of various exotic (non-native) tree species and establish an urban landscape that promotes biodiversity and visual amenity. This landscape will incorporate opportunities for the capture and cleansing of stormwater runoff from adjoining street drainage systems via bioretention basins and shallow swales
- incorporate sustainable water use through integration with the “Glenelg to Adelaide Parklands” pipeline, whereby treated recycled water will flow through the corridor to surrounding reserves.
Tonkin Consulting has developed preliminary concepts, in partnership with Swanbury Penglase Architects. The project will progress through to a broader public consultation and detailed design phase over the coming months.
