Cape Jaffa Marina Development
Tonkin Consulting was involved in the preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement document for the Cape Jaffa Anchorage Marina Development in South Australia’s South East. The investigation included assessment of the potential impacts and coastal management strategies associated with the proposed development, including sand movement and bypassing. The water quality and hydrodynamics of the marina waterways and breakwater entrance were also investigated. The team assessed the long-term sea levels rise and establishment of the tidal regime for the area, to help determine the mitigation measures needed to ensure protection of the residential and commercial areas in the future.
At an estimated capital cost in excess of $740 million, the project was approved as a major development in February 2006. Tonkin Consulting is responsible for all aspects of the detailed design including civil site works, road and stormwater design utilising water sensitive urban design (WSUD) principles, water supply, wastewater reticulation and treatment, breakwater design and waterway edge treatment for both the residential and commercial allotments.
The official ‘turning of the sod’ ceremony for the Marina development was held in early October, attended by more than 200 guests and dignitaries, including Patrick Conlon MP, Minister for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure, Patrick Secker MP, Member for Barker and Mitch Williams MP, Member for MacKillop.
