Schools Traffic Safety Review in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs
4 November 2015
Tonkin Consulting is currently undertaking a comprehensive traffic safety and parking review around 16 schools throughout the City of Norwood, Payneham and St Peters.
Almost all of these suburbs have grown and expanded over the last decade with significant increases in student numbers. Few of the schools have on-site parking or student drop-off facilities and the increase in traffic has resulted in safety concerns for the school children and residents near the schools.
Tonkin Consulting are reviewing and analysing the existing conditions and together with our partners GTA Consultants, we will identify recommendations for Council to improve safety around the schools.
The project has included detailed site inspections at each school during the morning and afternoon peaks, traffic data collection, parking surveys in streets around each school, review of collision data and specific pedestrian observations. Consultation has occurred with each of the school principals, Department of Transport’s Safe Routes to School Program and the elected Council members. Land use planning input is being provided by Jensen Planning + Design.
Representing one of the most comprehensive reviews of schools throughout Adelaide metropolitan area, the project is well underway with completion expected by the end of the year.
