The Mawson Connector (Elder Smith Road) is an $11.3 million, 1.3 kilometre dual carriageway which connects the Salisbury Highway to Main North Road and includes a railway overpass. The $33 million State Government funded Mawson Public Transport Interchange project was completed in March 2006. It provides integrated bus and passenger train interconnection services, shelters, car parking for up to 100 cars and potential for future expansion.
Tonkin Consulting was the lead road works design consultant in the consortium led by Bardavcol.
Our fully integrated design approach provided significant construction cost savings and delivered a high standard of functionality.
The site posed significant challenges. It coincided with the confluence of several major urban stormwater drainage systems, required grade separation between Elder Smith Road and the multi-track rail corridor while providing an at grade rail/ bus/car transport interchange incorporating two station platforms with full disability access and pedestrian/rail separation.
