Tonkin Consulting prepared the detailed design for infrastructure to redevelop the old Broadmeadows Primary School site in Elizabeth North into a residential housing estate.
This included earthworks, taking the existing flat terrain into account, and excavations left in the wake of demolition. To work with the aging infrastructure in adjacent and surrounding streets, Tonkin Consulting devised a solution with SA Power Networks to match into existing underground cables, and avoid clashes with proposed stormwater pipes.
The stormwater detention basin was designed to only operate in high-flow situations, with low flows by-passing the basin. The sewer was extended in three adjacent streets and new services coordinated to accommodate very narrow allotment frontages.
Construction supervision was undertaken in two stages with Stage 1 completed in 2011 and Practical completion reached for Stage 2 in 2012.
