Tonkin signs on to Engineers Declare.
Tonkin has become a signatory of the Australian Engineers Declare movement. The movement, founded by Engineers without Borders, defines climate change and the resultant biodiversity loss as the two most serious issues of our time and recognises the important role that engineers can play in shaping a better future for everyone.

Engineering activities are connected with 65% of Australia’s direct greenhouse gas emissions and as such, as a predominantly engineering organisation, we believe that we have a responsibility to support our economy’s transition to a low carbon future.

Following near-unanimous support from our Board and employees, our CEO, Gerry Doyle, and Technical Manager, Dr Olivia Oliver signed the declaration on our 65th birthday last week. Olivia is a senior water resources engineer and has undertaken post-doctoral research in the Centre for Sustainable Development at Cambridge University, which focused on understanding the impacts of climate change on water resources. Olivia has previously worked as KBR’s Asia Pacific Sustainability Coordinator. This background in sustainability and understanding of climate change will help to drive Tonkin’s commitment to the movement.
At Tonkin, we pride ourselves on working with our clients to deliver positive project outcomes. Signing up to the movement to mark our 65th birthday aligns with Tonkin’s purpose of providing exceptional consulting services, staying true to our values, respecting our history and inspiring people to create a bright future.

“It is exciting to be involved in an organisation that is willing to stand up and make a positive impact” Olivia said. She looks forward to working on actions to reduce our own footprint and working with our clients to develop sustainable solutions that contribute to preserving the planet for future generations.

Tonkin joins more than 150 engineering organisation signatories by signing the declaration, which presents a 12-point commitment to actively support the transition to a more responsible, low carbon future.
