Internships

Practical work experience plays an important part in helping you decide on the career path you want to follow.

Each year, we look for enthusiastic students studying civil engineering, structural engineering, drafting, spatial or environmental science to undertake practical work experience with us as an intern.

As an intern at Tonkin, you’ll benefit from exposure to a varied range of projects and learn from our people who have a multitude of expertise in different fields.

Tonkin was founded in 1955, and many of our staff are influential industry leaders with decades of valuable experience to share. You’ll also have the opportunity to network with our other interns and graduates who’ve recently joined our team.

The Tonkin difference
We understand that working on real-world projects for the first time has the potential to be a bit daunting. This is where Tonkin’s culture of care can make a real difference to your internship.

As a mid-sized consultancy, Tonkin can offer a personalised approach to your internship, while also equipping you with a wide breath of experience. We won’t throw you in the ‘deep end’; we’ll work with you to find the individual level of ‘stretch’ that’s best for you.

Caring and fun team culture
People perform at their best when they enjoy coming to work. That’s why at Tonkin we have a strong focus on building relationships and a positive team culture. Our regular social activities and early 3pm knock off on Fridays are just some of the ways our teams socialise and build relationships outside of the usual work environment. Simply put, we aim to employ great people, deliver excellent work and have fun doing it!
Sustainable infrastructure
With our world facing many complex challenges, there’s never been a more exciting time to be part of the engineering solutions that will help meet the needs of modern society.

Tonkin’s purpose is to design and deliver innovative and sustainable infrastructure through collaboration, knowledge and passion.

If this sounds like something you would like to be part of, we want to hear from you!
