Airport Design Services

Tonkin has a long, successful history in aerodrome design and construction, dating back to the original Kangaroo Island Airport upgrade in 1984.

Geometric Design
Our skilled team of engineers and designers have extensive experience in optimisation of airside geometries while maintaining MOS139 compliance. We understand the tight tolerances required for airport pavements and associated earthworks and have designed sealed and unsealed runways, taxiways and aprons for various aircraft codes.

Pavement Design
The unique load applications of airport pavements require specialist airport pavement design software. We optimise pavement designs through an assessment of various design life and aircraft ‘wander’ scenarios.

Electrical and Lighting
We understand that aerodrome upgrades involve numerous unique lighting elements that must be designed to CASA requirements and suited to ensure system reliability. We have robust relationships with specialist electrical and lighting designers that we have successfully partnered with.

Civil and Structural Components
Tonkin has in-house specialists to undertake all associated civil and structural design components. We understand the criticality of well thought out stormwater to reduce the risk of bird strikes and have experience in unique structural design elements such as lodgings imposed by design aircraft, cover slabs to maintain existing infrastructure in aircraft code upgrades, floodlight pole footings and culverts.
