This week Tim Kerby celebrates 25 years of service at Tonkin. Having joined Tonkin in 1999, Tim is currently our Stormwater Lead SA.

Tim joined us 25 years ago as a graduate engineer in our stormwater team, based in Tonkin’s Queen Street office. Over the years Tim progressed from a graduate engineer into more senior roles and now leads Tonkin’s SA-based Stormwater Team.

Tim’s extensive engineering experience spans the areas of hydraulics, flood risk assessment, planning and stormwater system design. No project is too big or small for Tim, with his expertise ranging from assisting councils with localised stormwater issues, right through to infrastructure projects of state significance. He has undertaken the role of head drainage engineer for large civil construction projects including the Fleurieu Connections Alliance, Adelaide Rail Revitalisation Project, the Port River Expressway and Gawler East Link Road. Tim has also been heavily involved in the preparation of a number of Urban Stormwater Master Plans for Councils across SA.

In additional to his technical expertise and leadership, Tim actively helps build social connections at work. He shares his passion for cycling and has encouraged many would-be bike riders in the Adelaide office with regular group cycle outings and support with their commute to the office.

One of Tim’s other passions, board games, has also become a weekly fixture, with Tim and fellow board game enthusiasts meeting up to test their skills with a fun lunchtime activity and to try and win the coveted Tonkin Board Game World Cup!

At Tonkin we know people perform at their best when they enjoy coming to work, and Tim has played a big role in facilitating a culture of fun and connection at our Adelaide office.

Reflecting on his time with Tonkin, Tim said:

"My time here has gone seemingly very fast, as time does, when you are having fun!  Being able to ride in to keep me healthy and to enjoy my personal passion of playing board games with colleagues has certainly helped!

It gives me a great sense of pride to go past completed stormwater related projects that I’ve been involved with, and I have greatly appreciated the good work – life balance that Tonkin has allowed me to enjoy.

While some may think it would be a bit boring to lead a stormwater team in the driest state in the driest habitable continent, there are still lots of very interesting stormwater related challenges that I look forward to solving in the years ahead!"

We thank Tim for his passion, leadership and professionalism he brings to the Tonkin team.
