Congratulations to Luke Boin who was recently appointed Chairperson of ‘YIPWEA’ SA – the young professional’s group for those working in public works engineering.
Luke, who leads Tonkin’s Asset Management and Spatial Team, has a long history of involvement with the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia, including being Vice Chair of Young IPWEA SA for the past two years.
This Chair appointment is not Luke’s first IPWEA accolade – in 2019 he received IPWEA SA’s Emerging Leader/Individual Commitment to Local Excellence in Public Works Management Award. Additionally, several of Tonkin’s projects that Luke has been involved have received IPWEA Excellence awards over the years.
Whilst still relatively early in his career, Luke is known for exuding wisdom beyond his years and being not only a talented engineer, but a highly capable leader and a genuinely great person to work with.

In recent years Luke was promoted from being a Senior Engineer, to his current role where he is now leading Tonkin’s asset management and spatial professionals, within the company’s SA/Vic Local Government team.
Luke and the team have been involved in many council projects around Adelaide and regional South Australia, like the Chapel Street Plaza and Hindmarsh Lane Redevelopment at Glenelg, and Kangaroo Island Town Centre Upgrades.
As Luke takes on the YIPWEA Chair role for the next two years, his passion for and comprehensive experience in public works engineering is set to benefit IPWEA SA and the wider industry.
