Tonkin is proud to support the Series on industry initiatives supporting mentally healthy workplaces, which has been released by the National Mental Health Commission. The series features Consult Australia as one of 13 case studies of industry-led initiatives successfully driving positive change.
In his former role as President of Consult Australia, Tonkin’s CEO Gerry Doyle lead the industry organisation’s efforts to improve mental health in consulting and professional services.

The series shows industry-led initiatives are leading strategic collaborative action across a range of Australian industries – from construction, mining and media to sport, the arts and transport and logistics.

The Series on industry initiatives supporting mentally healthy workplaces has been developed as part of the Mental Health Commission’s National Workplace Initiative, which aims to create a nationally consistent approach to mentally healthy workplaces.

The series is released to coincide with Psychology Week 2021, which this year explores the role psychology plays in the workplace.

As a senior executive who felt he had to hide his experiences living with chronic depression and mild anxiety from colleagues, Gerry’s motivation for speaking up was that he wanted things to be better for others in the industry.

Reflecting on his personal experience, Gerry said:

“I’m at the stage of my career where I’m pretty well insulated, but that was not the case earlier in my career and it’s not the case for many others in the industry. I want to make it a better place so other people don’t have to go through the years of hiding like I did.”

Read more about Consult Australia’s initiative, along with an interview with Gerry on pages 36 – 41 of Paper 2.
