Wetland wins Infrastructure Innovation Award
Tonkin is proud to have received the award for Infrastructure Project Innovation for our work on the Victoria Park/Pakapakanthi Wetland at the recent Australian Water Association SA Gala Dinner and Water Awards.
The Awards, presented in Adelaide on 18 November, celebrated the best and brightest working in water across South Australia. A number of Tonkin team members attended the gala event, and were delighted to accept the Project Innovation Award for Victoria Park/Pakapakanthi Wetland, which officially opened to the public in May 2022.
The project will now go on to represent South Australia at the AWA national awards in 2023.
The wetland has been built as part of the Brown Hill Keswick Creek Stormwater Project, designed to provide flood protection for the Adelaide metropolitan community, and offers significant environmental and community benefits.
Innovation, technical excellence and collaboration with a diverse stakeholder group was the impetus for the success of this project, representing one of the largest earthmoving redevelopments in Adelaide’s Park Lands in the past 60 years.

Tonkin’s outcomes and involvement with this project has produced valuable insights into green infrastructure design and the important role water professionals play in ensuring newly constructed water infrastructure can produce beneficial outcomes to current and future generations, through innovation and planning to shape our environment.
“It was an honour to achieve this recognition at the 2022 AWA Gala Dinner and Awards. The award demonstrates the dedication and innovation employed by the Tonkin team, along with our project partners DesignFlow and TCL. We’re proud to have worked with the Brown Hill and Keswick Creeks Stormwater Board to deliver this important water infrastructure project that will be enjoyed by the community for many years to come.”
