The Spatial Excellence Awards recognise the accomplishments of top spatial information enterprises and individuals, highlighting significant projects and professionals in the Surveying and Spatial industry. The regional awards are held in nine locations across the Asia Pacific region.
Tonkin's spatial team took home the Spatial Enablement Award for our Upper Yorke Independent Verification Collector and the Technical Excellence Award for our Northern Adelaide Irrigation Scheme Project: Supporting Major Projects from Idea to Construction.
On the Upper Yorke IV Independent Verification Collector project, Tonkin completed independent verification of 28 packages of road upgrades for Downer Construction and DPTI. We proposed undertaking the verification using a cloud-based GIS data collection tool that allowed our engineers to upload photos and notes on location, which could then be accessed in real time by the client, head contractor and fellow Tonkin staff.
On the NAIS project, Tonkin used an MCA to determine the best location, chosen from a list that had been narrowed down to 30 feasible locations. Criteria were weighted, with GIS used to undertake the design instead of the conventional AutoCAD.
As a winner from the regional heats, Tonkin is now in the running for an accolade at the national gala dinner, Locate19, which will be held in Melbourne in April 2019.
