The Australian and South Australian governments have committed a total of $685 million to fund the Fleurieu Connections Main South Road and Victor Harbor Road duplication projects. These projects will be delivered by the Fleurieu Connections Alliance.
The Fleurieu Connections Alliance
The Fleurieu Connections Alliance has been awarded the contract to deliver the Main South Road and Victor Harbor Road duplication projects. The Fleurieu Connections Alliance is a consortium comprising CPB Contractors, Aurecon and GHD, with SubAlliance partners McMahon Services Australia and Tonkin, in association with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport.
While Tonkin has a long history delivering projects for the Department of Infrastructure and Transport, this is the first time the company has been part of an Alliance of this kind.

Tonkin’s Dan Walsh has taken on the Design Lead role for the duplication of Victor Harbor Road and will lead Tonkin’s team to undertake the design of roads, drainage, services infrastructure, and provide planning services across both projects.
One of the key aims of the Alliance has been to fast-track jobs and economic growth for the people and businesses of the Southern Fleurieu and wider South Australia, by keeping the projects moving towards the construction phase as efficiently and quickly as possible.
Leveraging our depth of understanding and employing a collaborative approach, Tonkin’s design team helped deliver an optimised and value-for-money design solution for both main projects with key safety and constructability input from our construction partners.
Construction commencement
On 30 June Tonkin’s CEO Gerry Doyle, Dan Walsh and some of Tonkin's team members joined representatives from the Alliance partner companies and the South Australian Government to celebrate the start of road works on the Victor Harbor Road Project.
We’re excited to be partnering with the Alliance on this exciting project, which will result in safer and faster journeys for motorists and provide a vital boost for tourism in the Fleurieu Peninsula.
